Renowned businessman Charan Jeath Singh has added another supermarket to his wide range of businesses with the recent addition located in Yasawa St, Lautoka, yesterday.

The $8 million CJS Supermarket opened to a large crowd of Sugar City residents who welcomed the new shopping complex.

Mr Singh said opening a supermarket in the Western Division was a long time business plan for his company.

“We are Labasa-based company and we were always looking for opportunities to come to the west,” he said.

“The opportunity came when the building was on tender one year back so we got the building for $6m and we invested about $2m in the supermarket centre.

“A lot of our people were looking for us to open here and this was a very good opportunity for us. So now we have opened a supermarket in the north, one in Suva and now one in Lautoka,” he said.

He said with the new supermarket, employment opportunities had been created for residents.

“We have close to 75 staff in this supermarket but we will be bringing in more people when we upgrade the second and third levels of this building.

“We are looking at putting a food court in the fourth level and once that comes into play we will recruit more people.”

He added that a Suva-based supermarket is also under construction and is expected to open next year.

“We have complex currently under construction in Nakasi and we hope to have that opened in March, next year.”
